Joan Laporta: Messi should have a statue near the Camp Nou, like other legends. Barcelona President Joan Laporta announced that the club has already discussed the idea of installing a statue of Lionel Messi on the territory of the new stadium - however, the project will only be implemented after agreement with the Argentinean`s family.
During the presentation of journalist Chavi Torres` book Yo viví en la Masia (I lived in La Masia), Laporta said:
Messi is forever linked to Barcelona. He knows that the club`s doors are always open for him. We have absolute respect for him - he deserves the greatest and most sincere recognition.
He should have an article near the Camp Nou, like Cruyff and Kubala. He is one of those figures who defined an era. We have already discussed this issue at the board of directors and are working on it. Of course, the consent of the family is necessary, and all Barça fans want this. When the time comes and the design is ready, we will present the project.
We would really like this. I think all Barcelona fans would be happy to see a statue of Leo Messi next to other great legends of the club, ” Laporta said.
Lionel Messi: My family and I miss Barcelona, we really want to return. Looking forward to returning to the Camp Nou when it`s ready
